Fokker D.VII internment at IJzendijke

According to a number of newspapers, around 9 o’clock on 15 october 1918, a German biplane was flying over the villages Waterlandkerkje en IJzendijke. These villages are situated close to the Belgium border in Dutch ‘Zeeuws Vlaanderen’. The pilot had to make a landing and came down on the land of a certain Cyriel Buysse. He thought he was in Belgium. One source states the pilot was an officer, another that it was a petty officer. The newpaper ‘Telegraaf’ described the pilot as a 25 year old Saxon who had been a pilot for 4 years. The aircraft was described as a biplane with two machineguns and to one source numbered ‘115’.

‘The Jasta War Chronicles’ claims that on 15 october 1918 Flugmeister Baum was interned in Holland. Baum was a pilot for Marine Feld Jagdstaffel V (MFJ V).
